Finally after much hype and rumors Apple has announced all-new iPhones. iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X. Most of the rumors were true as usual. I covered them here. Now lets see what they announced for the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. Click HERE for iPhone X The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are similar to the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus in terms of looks but a lot has changed. They will be offered in a 64GB and 256 GB and both come in Gold, Silver and Space Gray. Pricing starts at just $699 and maxes out at $949. All Glass body with an aluminum frameThe glass is color matched to the aluminum frame and looks pretty slick. For those worried about it being a glass design Apple is saying this is "The most durable glass in a smartphone" so we'll see how it holds up. I'm pretty sure I'd put a case on it no matter what. Wireless Charging with Qi AccessoriesFINALLY we get wireless charging. I was half expecting Apple to complicate wireless charging by making some special Apple accessories that ONLY work with Apple devices and cost 100's of dollars. Thankfully wireless charging works with Qi accessories so if you already have Mophie, Belkin charging mats around the house like a lot of us do you're good to go for wireless charging. They did show us a preview of what they call the "AirPower Mat" which is set to release in 2018. Its essentially a charging mat that can charge an iPhone, Apple Watch and your AirPods simultaneously. Water, Dust and Splash ResistantBoth iPhones will be splash, water, and dust resistant up to IP67 under IEC standard 60529. IP67 basically says that the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus received the highest rating for dust protection (0-6 scale) and the second highest for water protection (0-8 scale). What the heck does all this mean for the average consumer like us? Can we go swimming with the iPhone? Can I go Scuba Diving with my iPhone?? NO AND NO. For us this means our iPhone is safe when I am in a dusty area like Dubai or Arizona. I dont have to worry about damaging my phone. It also means I have a level of protection if it starts raining. Of course I highly recommend putting a case on your phone to protect it from the elements. Case ~$30, iPhone $700+. Yea I'm getting a case. Also Apple's warranty clearly states it doesn't cover liquid damages. The CamerasMy favorite part the cameras!! The iPhone 8 has a single camera like the 7 and 8 Plus has dual cameras like the 7 Plus. The most notable addition is the Portrait Lighting mode for your still pictures. It allows you to adjust the depth of field right from the Camera App with 5 different lighting styles. It looked pretty impressive. iPhone 8 and 8 Plus can shoot 4K video up to 60fps and 1080p up to 240fps. 240fps is SLOW-MOTION!!!! I'm a little too excited about this since I've been experimenting a lot with slow-motion videos lately. Tech Specs of the Cameras
Cameras on Both Models Feature:
A11 Bionic Chip
Is it worth upgrading??The Apple Fanboy in me says: "HELL YEA TAKE MY MONEY!!!" BUT realistically if you have an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus I don't think its worth it unless you are part of some upgrade program or getting the iPhone X. If you have one of the older iPhones its a huge improvement and worth the investment. Will I be upgrading from my 7 Plus? Yes but I'm waiting for the iPhone X. Will you be upgrading??
