Its 2017 and YouTube has taken over the world and my life. It's one of the most difficult and rewarding things I have ever done. I got out of my comfort zone and finally decided to make an active YouTube channel. After YEARS of thinking about it. Here are the 2 biggest mistakes I made while starting out on YouTube. 1. Way Too Much EquipmentI could have easily started with just my iPhone 7 Plus, a Rode VideoMicro and a mount that fits on my iPhone to hold the Mic but nooooooo I had to get fancy and spend a bunch of money on unnecessary equipment. I love all the equipment I bought but I could have accomplished the same thing without it. Literally just start with what you have. You seriously don't need 4K cinematic footage, perfect sound, stabilizers or expensive DSLRs. Yes all that stuff is nice but just remember that the equipment is just a bunch of tools to make the video making process more efficient. The content is so much more important than the equipment. 2. Waiting for everything to be PERFECTThis mistake is worse than buying all the equipment because I wasted time. Money I can make back but I'll never get the time I spent "thinking about it" back. Like many of you I was waiting for the perfect moment to start making/posting videos. The list of excuses was endless. I'd literally shoot a video and delete it because of something ridiculous. I remember I recorded a video back in 2012 or 2013 for YouTube but deleted it because I convinced myself that "my neck looked too long" and another time I told myself that "I had too much of a unibrow and everyone will notice and laugh at" like WTF kind of excuse is that. YES IT WAS RIDICULOUS. JUST F***ING POST a good message and be YOU At the beginning your content is so much more valuable than you. Nobody cares about you at first. More than likely they stumbled across your video to get some type of information. Think about this even if you magically make the perfect video you have ZERO audience nobody is watching you so doesn't matter if you look like an A-list celebrity or an average person. Just make sure you're not a slob unless thats part of your channel content. Stop thinking doing it and just do it. It will NEVER be perfect. Hopefully this article helped you and if you didn't read it watch the video version on Youtube below =)
